About

Wild Pacific Albacore is a premium tuna, caught off California, Oregon and Washington between June and October. Harvested from abundant stocks using the environmentally conscious “hook & line” method (troll-caught), Wild Pacific Albacore is a sustainable choice for lovers of quality seafood.

The delicious, local tuna is an excellent source of protein, vitamin A, vitamin B12, selenium, and niacin and is low in sodium. Albacore caught in the Pacific Northwest also has the highest concentrations of heart-healthy omega-3s of any albacore.

While Wild Pacific Albacore can be found on the menu at some of America’s best restaurants, it is just as quick and easy to cook at home. With a mild flavor and firm flesh, it’s perfect for grilling, poaching, broiling, smoking, and is excellent served raw as sashimi.

Whether you’re buying fresh albacore steaks or high quality custom-canned, Wild Pacific Albacore is a delicious addition to any meal. Add grilled or canned albacore to salads or pasta for a healthy lunch, or stir-fry albacore slices with vegetables for a quick dinner.

Albacore loins and steaks can be marinated in a tangy soy marinade and grilled on the barbeque, added to a seafood soup, or made into a healthy burger patty.

Buy Wild Pacific Albacore at leading retailers across North America, just look for “U.S. caught” or “Product of the U.S.” on the label or at the seafood counter.

"It is a really lovely fish to work with; it's got a mild flavor and great texture. Where our seafood comes from and how it's caught is a huge concern for us."
~ Chef Stuart Brioza, Rubicon, San Francisco, CA.

"It is one of our most popular dishes."
~ Chef Chris Holen, Baked Alaska, Astoria, OR

What is “Trolling”?

Wild Pacific Albacore is caught on small, barbless hooks or “jigs” cast from a slow moving fishing boat. This is called trolling (not to be confused with trawling, which is a net method used for catching groundfish species). This low-impact technique has been used in U.S. fisheries for nearly a century.

Sustainable
Due to good management, the North Pacific albacore population remains healthy. The West coast troll/pole albacore fishery is certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and earns a “Best Choice” rating on Monterey Bay Aquarium‘s SeafoodWatch Guide.

There is near zero by-catch with the troll method of fishing and Wild Pacific Albacore is dolphin and turtle safe.

Local
Buying seafood caught in U.S. waters, by U.S. fishing boats, supports coastal communities and provides jobs for Americans.
Imported seafood travels thousands of miles to get to your plate, so not only is buying local albacore good for the economy, it’s also better for the environment.

Delicious
Wild Pacific Albacore are younger and smaller than their older siblings caught in the South Pacific. Because of the differences in age and the foods they eat, “troll-caught albacore" always refers to tastier, omega-3 rich albacore.
